Experience Oktoberfest in Munich
Oktoberfest is Munich’s famous annual folk festival, held at the Theresienwiese in the heart of the city.
It combines traditional Bavarian culture with large festival marquees, live music, traditional food, fairground attractions and Munich festival beer.
In 2027, Oktoberfest takes place from Saturday 18th September until Sunday 3rd October, marking its 192nd edition. The festival grounds and main marquees are free to enter, although the historic Oide Wiesn has an admission charge.

What Can You Expect at Oktoberfest?
The Beer Tents - Oktoberfest features large and small festival tents, each with its own character, food, music and atmosphere.
For 2027, Munich lists various large festival tents and small tents (TBA). Some focus strongly on traditional Bavarian music and atmosphere, while others have a more contemporary evening feel.
The traditional opening ceremony takes place at Schottenhamel, where Munich's mayor taps the first barrel at noon on opening day and declares:
“O'zapft is!” - After the first barrel is tapped, the festival beer can be served in the other tents.
Traditional Bavarian Food - Expect plenty of traditional Bavarian dishes, including:-
Pretzels - Roast chicken - Sausages - Roast pork - Potato dishes - Dumplings - Traditional Bavarian snacks and desserts
Each festival tent has its own food offering, so dining can be part of the experience as well as the celebrations.
Fairground Attractions - Oktoberfest isn't only about the beer tents.
The Theresienwiese becomes a large fairground with more than 100 rides and stalls, ranging from traditional attractions to large modern rides.
For visitors who want something different, the Oide Wiesn offers historic rides, traditional music and a more heritage-focused atmosphere.
Oktoberfest attracts visitors from around the world, and Munich becomes particularly busy during the festival period.
